Does Anyone Remember Laughter? The Current State Of Operation Sports
Posted on May 25, 2018 at 04:13 PM.
Man, I don't know where to begin. I found this site back in 2009 when I was searching for some slider idea's for Madden 10, and MLB The Show 2009. When I first came here I was blown away at the great interaction of the members, the interaction with game developers of my favorite sports games and just the overall great vibe of a sports gaming community.

Fast Forward to 2018 and I am really regretfully here to say, what the hell happened? Far too many great members have fallen off the map due to the constant negativity and agenda posting that has plagued the site in the last 2 years. I have been sharing sliders and my approaches to playing The Show, Madden, NBA 2K and even a few times for the NHL series for years. I love helping out others enjoy sports games as much as I do. To me the beauty of the community is all of us sharing positive experiences, tips, tricks, house rules, working through sometimes design flaws and bugs that can not be patched etc etc. Instead the general forums of Madden, 2K and now MLB The Show have become a cesspool of agenda posters and extreme hyperbole and insult after insult hurled at game developers (some who I have had some great interactions with to improve the games). I am sorry, but EA has earned some mud slinging and that I can agree with. But Visual Concepts and SDS have earned a ton of respect and rope from me. They engage with the community and always have been looking out for the offline franchise players. They have continually improved their games each and every cycle. Yet the sense of entitlement that has taken over society has creeped it's way into the world of sports video gaming.

"I spent my $60 dollars and I demand the world".

I mean think about this. A game cost $60 bucks on average. I probably put in 400 hours a year into MLB The Show. .06 cents a day this game costs me. 6 freaking cents. So give me a break with this I spent my money so damn them if I can't set ticket prices and hot dog prices. I get incredible replay value and year round entertainment out of some of these sports games. Again. WTF is going on here?

I will continue to provide my settings and approaches to the various sports games I enjoy...because it is fun. I simply enjoy playing the games and I get great enjoyment out of interacting with like minded gamer's here at Operation Sports and on Twitch when I stream all the various franchises I have. It's a hoot. And I can tell you we all laugh and share stories.....laughter. Does anybody remember laughter?

I believe the falling off with this website has a lot to do with the falling off of sports gaming as a whole. As you said, Visual Concepts and Sony San Diego deserve praise for their games, and I would personally add Konami to that list with the past couple PES iterations being very fun. I agree that some people on here go a little overboard with expectations even with the well made sports games like The Show. However, I believe EA deserve every bit of criticism that is thrown at them. EA are obviously the biggest sports gaming developer/publisher, and they have been putting out completely uninspired products for a long while now, solely milking ultimate team modes for as long as possible without any innovation. You can tell that the high-ups at EA don't have any real passion for the sports that they emulate, they only care about the $$$. Sadly, EA basically own American Football, Ice Hockey, and for the most part Soccer and as such have effectively killed off the community of gamers who love those sports. I know many people who have completely stopped playing Madden, NHL and FIFA because they can't take the neglection shown to these games. On the upside, I also know plenty of people who don't even like baseball, yet play The Show because of how well kept and innovative a product it is. I myself have barely any interest in the sport, yet have been playing The Show since 2016 because of how fun the game is. If some new developers who have an actual passion for these sports could start working on some new games and give EA some much needed competition, I think this website would come back to life in a big way.

I don’t disagree with that point @Chiefaho, but I still do think the negativity has tilted to the way overboard territory and has diminished the community as a whole the last few years. It has made’s it’s way into the 2K and Show forum two fold. That is disappointing. Far more than how Madden or NHL plays IMO.
